It is time to repay to our country

TEMAK is one of the oldest and well-established companies of machine tools industry in Turkey. After passing away of the founder Mr Ali Küçükoğlu, TEMAK continues its existence by strengthening as a family company committed to corporate values and principles. We talked with Ms Pelin Küçükoğlu, Member of the Board of Directors of TEMAK, both how the well-established company emerged and the values of the company, as well as taking part as a woman in the so-called male dominated industry.

Could you tell us about the establishment process of TEMAK?

Ali Küçükoğlu, who graduated from Boğaziçi University Mechanical Engineering in 1982, worked professionally in the product development department of  TOFAŞ factory, which was his first job, and then in the foreign trade departments of the machining tools industry.  Later he founded TEMAK Teknik Machine Tools company. Temak’s first big business was selling a huge press line to one of Turkey’s leading car factory

In the beginning, TEMAK started off as a CNC machining tools sales distributor, and then focused on the import of consumables used in CNC machines. By having realized that there was a deficiency in this field, my father Ali Küçükoğlu dreamed of a business model where all products for metal processing delivered from a single point and stock. By searching various overseas companies and visiting many factories by Mr Ali Küçükoğlu, today Temak is the sole distributor of many of its 35 brands and deep relationships beyond business with its suppliers.

What was his basic philosophy?

My father’s basic philosophy was always to aim 100% satisfaction and trust in the supplier and customer side by supplying the best products from the most reliable suppliers. TEMAK’s most important issue today is to maintain the title of “reliable company” all the time. This is an indispensable corporate principle that is beyond of all commercial objectives. While carrying the mission of keeping our words and the identity of a family business, we will keep our corporate identity from generation to generation over the years.

How did you step into the sector? As a woman, how is working in the so called “male dominated” industry?

For the continuation of these goals, my father, Ali Küçükoğlu, took me Temak office every summer since my primary school age and prepared for this business both psychologically and technically by explaining his business style, our work, goals and ideas. After graduating from Sabancı University Industrial Engineering in 2014, I started my career in TEMAK. The presence of women in business life, which is frequently mentioned nowadays, was initially worrisome for me, especially in our industry. But over time, I have seen that, rather than talking about one hundred percent equality between men and women, both sides have distinct superior qualities and need to be focused on, that women are indispensable in business life. Today, we see that a large audience has noticed this. I did not encounter any obstacle or negative approach as it is thought in the industry. On the contrary, I can say that the presence of women in our industry is more respected and needed than we think.

We observe that TEMAK has recently stepped into social responsibility projects? Why did you need such a project?

As TEMAK, our most important goal today is to provide our customers exactly what they need at the right time, by preserving my father’s principle of “trust”. In addition to our wide product range, our top priority in recent years is customer-oriented service, the fastest delivery and happy customers. We also attach great importance to the fact that TEMAK, which has achieved many of its goals, is now “paying back” to our country and the sector, and since last year it takes place as a sponsor in organizations such as social responsibility and technical competitions and symposiums. This should be the goal of every company that comes to a certain point.
